New water pump and problems

Post by boyce1911 »

First problem, how much clearance is supposed to be between balancer pulley and water pump pulley.
Second problem, ac and power steering are both half a pulley off towards the engine. I guess that's why the p.o
Had all kinds of washers behind the brackets. I tried to go back without them but I think it's my only option?? Any ideas

So I am going to assume this is the 360 in your Wagoneer? Its helpful to list the engine and year in cases like this.

It sounds like either you have the wrong pulley for your water pump, or the pump itself is intended for a different year, or with a different accessory config (ie: without A/C).

Can you confirm that the balancer pulley is fully seated on the crankshaft? The balancer pulley is often a tight enough fit to install and work without being fully seated, and could leave a difference of up to 1/2-inch in the other pulley grooves lining up. The space between the installed pulleys is only about the thickness of two quarters stacked together.

Sorry guys, it is the wagoneer 360. The balancer and water pump pulleys line up perfectly, but about 1/10" clearance between. The steering and ac pulleys are 1/2 groove off towards the back of engine. I knew belts weren't in perfect alignment before but didn't know about the washers behind those brackets until I started taking them off.

The water pump pulley and crank pulley are really close on an AMC V8.
