J10 Hood Latch

I have a '79 J10, the hood latch opens from the outside. Somehow the opening lever got in front of the tab it's supposed to push on. I can't open the hood! Any suggestions or ideas?

The lever presses on the crossbar which releases the latches. I would suggest a flat construction prybar/nail puller and sneak it in between the hood and grille, then give it a whack once the end is against the tab. You may have to get creative.
