Carter m6505 fuel pump issues?

Post by coolhand75 »

New m6505 fuel sputters fuel on at 1500 rpms. At idle no fuel goes in to clear fuel filter at carb. At 1500 rpm it fills half of the filter and the stops for 20 seconds or so. Any ideas would be appreciated I'd rather not warranty this fuel pump and have the same problem. Thanks

New plastic tank. I disconnected the feed line to the pump pressurized the tank and the fuel coming out is clean.

Hmm... Any chance you installed it wrong and the arm is on the wrong side of the cam eccentric?

Well the truck was sitting for 12 years. So I had a "mechanic " get it road worthy I assumed he did it right. The first day I brought it home everything seemed ok except there was once again barely in fuel in the filter. I just thought it was vapping the fuel. It's been a couple of months since than. I assumed the pump was losing its prime so I started looking into it after it wouldn't start.

But the pump is new, right? Not newly replaced a few years ago?
I don't think the old diaphragm style pumps care much for ethanol fuels. Maybe, if it sat a while the diaphragm got a hole in it?

Yes it's new less than 6 months old.
