Can anyone tell me off the top of their heads whether the D44 in the rear of a 1979 cherokee uses straps or ubolts for the rear axle yolk...didn't think to look and I want to order new ones along with the new ujoints.

If I'm not mistaken, it should have straps by 1979.

You could just order both and return the ones that you don't use.

1979 will still have U-bolts. The change over year was 1980 when the AMC 20 axle and New Process transfer cases were added.

U bolts are better than straps.

I just pulled the axles out of a '79 Cherokee and they are U bolts.

U-bolts for the win! Installed the driveshaft last night. Putting the core support back in tonight and tomorrow hopefully starting up the 5.3 swap for the first time. I'm pretty excited to see it move under its own power.
