1977 Trailer hitch

Post by jeepinjake »

Howdy, what did the stock trailer hitch look like? Anybody got any pictures of theirs?

I need to know because the previous owner cut it out of the end cap and I'd like to weld one back on or just take a look and see if I can do anything.

Thanks again lads

Is it a V style or the usual U style bars that are alongside the frame rails

Here is the V type on the 74

No other discounts as I'm practically giving them away at this price

I would also love to see a pic of the hitch if you get a chance.

I just bought a jeep brand 2" receiver hitch. Interestingly enough the hitch looked like any other 80 era truck hitch. But there were braces inside the frame rails also. So if you find one on a donor car. Make sure to get the braces if it has them.

It's held on with 10 bolts on mine.

That looks like a Valley hitch, usually installed by the dealership. My Cherokee came with one of those but I removed it and put a factory 2" receiver under there.

Little late, but here is a picture of my U hitch. I do believe it is a OEM being that it sets back far enough to clear the spare tire bracket.

I believe that is aftermarket. Factory would have been "V" shaped for your year. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

This the hitch I recently bought. For my 82 also pictured is the brace that goes inside the frame on either side. You can see the 2 bolts going throught the side of the frame in front and behind the spring mount.

If you look closely where the ball mounts it should have Valley Industries stamped into it. Same company that made those super flimsy swing out tire carriers back in the day. My '79 Cherokee had the same hitch when I bought it and I immediately bent it pulling an 18 wheeler out of our septic field where I used to work. I've since replaced it with the factory V style hitch.

Im sure it also said 1500 lbs max trailer weight. Not 80,000 18 wheeler.
