I am pulling a 1983 il6 258 with 727 tranny over to a 1975 401 using the same tranny what issues will I face. Will all bolts on the ring gear match up. Motor mounts starter and other stuff I should know about.? Newbie this is to go into my 83 cherokee thanks

Motor mounts are entirely different. They cannot be modified easily, they have to be cut off and replaced typically. The i6 ones are FAR longer than one for a V8. Also the i6 uses a much smaller radiator. The whole core support is different. So really you would need a V8 core support, which is pretty easy to find. As V8 FSJ's are more common than i6 FSJ's.

You will need to pull the crank bushing out of the end of the crank on the 401. As it would have come with a TH400 from the factory. The bell housing will bolt right up.

The hardest thing will be finding a flex plate for a TF727 for a 401. AMC V8's are externally balanced, so you have to have a 401 flex plate. Bulltear still carries the TF727 flex plate for 401's: http://www.bulltear.com/catalog/product ... cts_id=154

Even NAPA has the 727 plate for 401s. It's the TH400 version that's getting hard to come by.
