Is it the one piece oil pan seal? If so, reuse it. They're the best.

Sure is.

One last q for this evening. Should I use any kind of sealant or adhesive with the blue paper gasket that goes between the timing cover and block?

I don't. On V8s I do around the water ports but when it's just oil I let the paper do it's thing. I grease the heck out of paper gaskets on dry stuff like carbs, but for sealing oil they can go in dry.

The blue gasket should not have any sealant on it. Everything should be cleaned so it is completely oil free (even oil off your skin can mess up the seal). As long as this is done, it will not leak.

One last question for tonight concerning gaskets. Using the FelPro TCS 45458 kit. They give you a new rubber for under the timing cover. My Jeep appears to have one of the high end blue rubber oil pan seals. Should I just reuse the existing seal or cut it out and use the one the kit came with?
Yeah, it surprised me to see it in there. The nylon teeth had deep grooves worn in them, and you can see the slack in the chain. It sure ran better after putting in the new chain. There was so much slack that the timing would jump all over the place.

Apparently no one likes my thread about the Timing Cover Alignment; Let me ask the question here.

The FSM shows a tool for aligning the cover. Did you concern yourself with "aligning" the cover with a tool or otherwise?

Is this alignment tool you're talking about the thing that looks like a donut and goes on the crank when installing the timing cover?

I'll take a look at your thread. This is the first I've heard of an alignment tool. I do have several FSM's for various years that I can check, but it will be awhile before I can as I'm hammering to get this Jeep on the road. Sometime next week more than likely.

I don't have my Manual in front of me but I think it was similar to this...

If no one is using it, or its not critical, no problem. I won't worry...
